A 2015 & 2016 Top 100 Knitting Blog!
I don’t own a rocking chair. Don’t knit in one, have never knitted in one (although give me a nice glass of wine and a lovely view and I’ll be tempted).
The non-knitting world’s view of us has always been stereotypical. You know the one, it’s in any knitting cartoon. After years of knitting at every gathering, one would think my family and friends would understand today’s knitter is vastly different. She (or he) is young, fashionable and friendly. Thanks to Google Analytics, I know that 51% of you are under 34 years of age and 67% are under 44 (my version of young). We’re online – we browse, we blog and we’ve created a unique global community. It’s really quite amazing.
Apparently, however, they either think I am an anomaly or an old fart (I hesitate to ask which). The disconnect became clear when I joyfully told everyone that one of my patterns was selected for Knitty. The ‘isn’t that nice’ comments were more enthusiastic once I explained that Knitty gets over 1.5 million visitors a month and that Ravelry has over 4 million registered users. “Wow, there are that many knitters?!” they asked.
Yes, people, there are and we are not populating nursing homes either!! While we come in a variety of stripes, many of the knitters I know have a geeky tendency. I certainly fall into that category; math is my friend, I listen to science podcasts, can give detailed plot lines for every Star Trek Next Gen episode and gleefully play on my Mac trying new software, photo apps and web design ideas.
That’s why when I saw this Flip Book software I just had to try it. Take a look, it’s a fun way to get an overview of our designs and I’m confident you know your way around a computer.
